is in some ways not typical of icelandic artists: before he became an artist, he worked in another field - a field sometimes assosiated with art, but mostly see onsidered the foundation of our existence. I am of course referring to the fact that Ludviksson is fully qualified chef, and has occasioally worked as such at the same time that he has been focusing on his art.
This association with food - often in beautiful and artistic ways - is worth keeping in mind when examining the art of Gudmundur R Ludviksson. Bing a chef you are often repeating the same processes again snd again in prepering the same dishes, and as an artist you are continually working with the same raw material - yourideas and media you choose to work in - in order to create new works or to convey your ideas in new ways to the viewer. The two are obviously related, and the methods of both chef and artist remind us strongly of the cycle of life general. This is because the culinary arts are in some ways the mirror image of the visul arts; you select raw material, bring them together in the best ways possible, and even spiritually.
